PDO Threads

PDO thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure which uses different lengths of acupuncture like sterile needles to place PDO dissolving threads beneath the skin’s surface. When placed in the appropriate position, it will give the face a lifted and toned appearance especially in the lower face and jowls. The threads are made from polydioxanone, which is a safe substance that keeps the skin in its new tightened state and will disappear through hydrolysis after 6-8 months. Individuals can expect reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, younger looking skin due to tightening effect, and improved skin tone, texture, pigmentation, scarring and stretch mark appearance.

Smooth PDO

Threads are placed under the skin to stimulate the regeneration of collagen type 1 and 3. This acts to minimize fine lines and wrinkles as it improves the overall elasticity of the surrounding skin.

Barbed PDO

PDO “Cog” or “Barbed” Threads are placed under the skin and anchors onto sagging tissue. The thread is then lifted upwards to achieve an instant contouring effect.

PDO Thread lift FAQs

  • PDO Threads are made of a complex sugar polydioxanone, a safe suture material used in cardiovascular and orthopedic surgeries for 30+ years.

  • The procedure takes an average of 1 hour, but you can see an immediate lift. You may experience mild pain, swelling, and bruising compared to surgical procedures. Results improve over time as the swelling, redness, and bruising subsides.

  • After the procedure, you may feel swollen and sore, but can resume daily activities immediately. You can resume more intense activities such as strenuous exercise after a week.

  • You will have local anesthesia administered in treatment areas prior to the procedure. You may feel pressure during the insertion of the threads and/or hear the "clicking" sound from the threads, but you should feel minimal pain during the procedure.

  • The PDO threads are absorbed by the body over 6-8 months, but the results can last for up to one year as the threads can help stimulate collagen production in the skin. However, results will vary depending on the degree of sagging, thickness of the skin, and the facial structure of the patient.

  • A facelift is a great for those with severe sagging skin and tissue who can invest in this long-term solution and time off to recover. The results of a facelift are drastic and can last up to ten years.

In contrast, PDO threads can be a great alternative for those who are looking to address sagging skin through a minimally invasive procedure, and at a fraction of the cost of a facelift. The results are natural and instant with minimal downtime and trauma.
